16. Truckstops, Travel and Showers

Ok WanderingVets, Homeless Veterans and other Vets:

Truck stops are a travellers mecca: They are the preferred bus stop, train station, shower stop whatever you need it is there!
Showers: At PILOT, Flying J, T/A, LOVE’S Travel Centers, and others, drivers get free showers with 75 gallon fuel fill ups. A lot of these drivers throw these tickets away or do not use them. Ask the drivers for them. If they do not have one they will get on the CB and you will have one in minutes.

Travel: Go into the drivers lounge now that you are clean, pull out your paperback and put up a sign saying Veteran going to Duluth, or Detroit or Wherever. Someone will come talk to you and if they like you…you will get a lift. A lot of drivers are Veterans now a days. They are sympathetic and often they will give you a tenner to boot or buy lunch a long the way.

I have met many great Americans in places I would have never been caught dead at in my previous life. A truck stop is definitely one of those places where I have learned a life lesson. I had looked down on a lot of people in life and now I have found there is good in a lot of places I had never looked at before. God Bless.

Most showers are now issued on points cards best approach is to stand by the fuel desk and ask politely most drivers have more showers than they can use but you need them to go back with you to swipe their card n enter their pin code or have the fuel clerk print a ticket with a pin
