75.My Agenda

My Agenda

Boy did I get some ripping emails this past few days from some mad folks at an American Legion in Vermont! Really shook them up! I am glad too as maybe it will filter around in circles to others.

One gentleman from Hartland, Vermont said something about me having an agenda. He asked if I ever had a home. He said if I could clearly express myself maybe I would be listened to. Well I went back and read most of my 75 current hits and they seemed rather lucid and understandable. But I want to re-cap my agenda anyway just in case.

  1. I want to assist brother homeless veterans find a way out of the holes they have found themselves in through either proper treatment through the Veterans Administration or by assisting them to gain a foothold back in to a normal pattern of life off the streets.
  2. For the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Administration to both improve their levels of service and care for those they have been charged to care for. To eliminate red tape on pensions and compensations, delays in medical care, and any other means to insure our Warriors present and past are cared for in the most respectful and expeditious manner.
  3. That our Fraternal Veterans Organizations that are collecting dues in the name of past glories and purporting themselves as being for the Veteran stand up with their mission statements and their original charters in hand and start acting in the manners in which they were founded.
  4. Encourage all current organizations that are currently accepting monies from the VA for homeless veteran programs to get out of the “fugue” states that they are currently finding themselves in and back into an energized state. The current levels of apathy I have seen at all levels is shockingly depressing.
  5. To make communities and individuals more alert to the fact that there are homeless veterans living among them. That 1 out of every 4 homeless is a VETERAN. That help is not something that is a federal program but sometimes just something simple as a bottle of water.

How about that for my mission statement or my “Agenda”? At least I have one and try to act on it everyday when I can.

Keep on telling it like it is and if it steps on somebody’s toes in the event that only goes to prove that all it not “right” in the land of opportunity.

As for the idea that you have an “agenda” – as Gomer Pyle used to say: “Surprise, Surprise, Suprise!”

You have my pat on the back for having an agenda, unlike so many of the organizations that are supposedly fraternal brotherhoods of veterans who so convienently forget about certain of their brother vets simply because those brother vets happen to be homeless.

I seem to recall some saying that:

“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”

    Keep making ’em mad…

    Oh, and before I forget…

    Happy Thanksgiving, my friend

You know you really don’t have to justify what you do to a group of people who should be outraged that there are veterans living on the street. With all of their fund raising and posturing on how much good they do one would think that they would actually use the money they raised to reach out to the veterans in the surrounding communities and beyond. It is a sad day in America when the one group of people who SHOULD be standing up for the veteran is attacking one because he has called them to the table. No wonder they can’t get the younger vets to join. They don’t buy their bullshit anymore. If you piss them off enough and they yell loud enough, they will make your case for you!

Well done my friend! Don’t let them attack you and don’t let them degrade you like they did to all the homeless veterans in their community and the surrounding communities. It should just serve as a reminder to you that they are no different than the ones who step around you while you are laying under a tree, in a park, enjoying the sunshine. They CHOOSE not to see you, because if they see you they will have to get off their lazy asses and do something about it rather than having a dinner for the masses while they totally ignore the ones who need it most.
